1st Annual – Earth Week – April 20-22, 2012
A Creative, Fun-Filled, All Ages FREE Family Event
4000+ at the First Creatively United for the Planet and two bags of garbage!
THANK YOU to everyone for your support of what was a tremendous weekend of art, entertainment, food, dance and community!!!!
By coming together, we managed to support more than 16 eco charities and work towards the goal of Inspiring Environmental Awareness & Community Through Creativity.
It brought tears to my eyes to see so many people and families laughing, playing, learning, sharing and enjoying themselves so much.
People came from far and wide to be at the festival and the feedback has been nothing short of WOW!
It’s said that it takes a village to raise a child and it was great to see the community come together to support under-funded charities doing the hero work to ensure we have something worthwhile to leave to future generations.
Thanks to the 100′s of volunteers from the planning team to the on-the-day volunteers doing everything from sorting trash to modelling for our eco fashion show, to the many amazing musicians, world-class speakers and many local businesses for giving this first-time festival wings.
And thank you to the staff and congregation at St. Matthias for their willingness to not only lend a hand but entrusting us to use their beautiful property.
Given it was an Earth Week celebration, we did everything in the most sustainable manner possible and managed to recycle or compost everything but two bags of garbage thanks to the help of Westshore Bottle Depot.
It took Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) about 30 years to convince people that driving drunk was unacceptable.
It’s my goal to see the environment and sustainability become a bigger priority and help those charities already working towards that end become better funded.
Did you know that environmental charities currently receive less than 4 per cent of all charitable donations?
I think that’s appalling don’t you, given that nothing else will matter if we don’t have a healthy planet?
I would like to see environmental charities become as well funded as the disease charities which currently get more than 80% of the charitable dollar.
Imagine if we switched those numbers around so that our priorities were focused more on health and prevention which starts with a healthy eco system as we are all part of that system!!!
As John Lennon so eloquently wrote: Some may say I’m dreamer, but I’m not the only one…I hope you will join us as we come together as one!
THANK YOU FOR GIVING GREEN A CHANCE and supporting the vision of Creatively United for the Planet.
With Gratitude,
Frances
